Ertai’s Meddling on QS: Repel the Dark (INN)
As we head into the lengthening shadows of Dark Ascension, we look if there’s anything that can be done to help the hapless Humans of Innistrad to better prepare them for the coming horrors. Starting with the Intro Pack Repel the Dark, and using only Innistrad and Magic 2012 cards, indeed there seems to be quite a bit of room for improvement!
Many of you will remember Magic Beyond the Box from last year, as our preconstructed feature column over on Quiet Speculation. Come on by, check out the deck, and say hello!
News: Dark Ascension Intro Packs Fully Spoiled
Hey folks, just a quick note to let everyone know that if they haven’t checked it out yet, the full Dark Ascension Intro Pack deck lists are up at the Magic Arcana today on the mothership. While the hover-over card images aren’t fully updated yet, you can still get a full look at what’s on offer!

Flashback: Five Reasons Why Intro Packs Matter
As many of you know, I have a column at Quiet Speculation called ‘Magic Beyond the Box,’ which looks at preconstructed Magic from a more general angle. Although it’s been on hiatus for much of Autumn, it will begin again this week with a Meddling of Innistrad’s Repel the Dark. As a bit of bonus content today, here’s a reprinted article from the QS vault. It originally ran on 15 December, but the thoughts within it are as true today as they were then- if not perhaps a little moreso. Enjoy!
Whispers of the Muse: Jackson P’s Repel the Dark (INN)
One of the great things about Intro Pack decks is how well they lend themselves to some rudimentary deckbuilding. Our Whispers of the Muse feature is dedicated to precisely that! With a deck idea submitted by a reader, we turn to the preconstructed community to offer ideas and suggestions on how to improve the deck. Today we return to Innistrad, with the Green/White Human tribal offering, Repel the Dark.
News: Images of the Dark Ascension Intro Packs Revealed
Just a quick note this morning directing you to head over to MTG Salvation if you haven’t done so already, and check out the pictures of the Intro Packs that have turned up. No deck lists yet, but we do have names and faces- a great start!
Whispers of the Muse: Fangs’s Phyrexian Poison (SOM)
Happy New Year to everyone, and to kick off the cleanr slate each year brings we have a new Whispers of the Muse. If you’re a new reader to Ertai’s Lament, Whispers is a deckbuilding advice column for folks who are looking to base their decks off of a precon. What makes the column so fun is that the answers don’t come from one place, but rather throughout the readership of the site. Call it “the wisdom of the masses,” call it “crowdsourcing,” it’s a great opportunity for folks to put their minds together and come up with a winning deck!
News: Official Trailer Released for Tap: Max’s Game
You may recall back in October we made mention of a Czech film in production called Tap: Max’s Game. A “sports drama” based on Magic: the Gathering, it tells the story of a group of friends who return to the game after breaking apart and going their separate ways. When they look to reassemble the team for a shot at the national championships, they find a surprising nemesis: one of their own who’d turned his back on their friendship and gone pro.
New Year’s Eve: Pack to Fortune 2011
Some of you may recall last year we staged an event called “Pack to Fortune.” A fun and whimsical fortune-telling device centered around reader participation and an unopened booster pack of cards, we looked to divine what we had in store for the coming year based upon what you opened. It was a lot of fun and we had some great responses.
Into the Roil: Graveborn (PDS)
I strolled the hallways of nothingness in search of battle. Quite simply, I was looking for a fight. The plane of Innistrad had left a bitter taste in my mouth. It was a new place and I was unaccustomed to its mana.
Ertai’s Meddling: Deathly Dominion (INN)
Good news for fans of precon tinkering! Today we’re exploring the runt of Innistrad’s ghoulish litter, Deathly Dominion! A Black/Green deck built around the morbid mechanic, we judged this one to be the worst of the lot- and most in need of a makeover.
