Announcing Duel Decks: Venser vs Koth!

by Dredd77

Visitors to the mothership this morning were greeted with an especially interesting announcement in today’s Magic Arcana- the announcement of the next Duel Decks! Looks like it’s going to be a faceoff between two of the planeswalkers from Scars of Mirrodn- Venser, the Sojourner versus Koth of the Hammer.

Also of note, Wizards will be reversing the release order of the planeswalker and factional Duel Decks. Up until now the factional decks have been released earlier in the year, and planeswalker ones later. Beginning next year with this release, the planeswalker ones will come first.

Read all about it- and check out some new art- over at the Magic Arcana!

They did this last year I think. Though I figured they’d announce the next tribal, not the next walker.

Wait. It is the march one. The cycle is broken. I like this to a degree. Will be nice to see the tribal one tied to a sets that are likely to have cards to help expand it.

Wonder what it’ll be. Don’t really care for Venser or Koth. Safe to sat unlike the Bolas one, this one will jump in price a good bit.

I’m not much for Venser either, but a deck based around blinking shenanigans would be pretty fun to play, methinks… Ruin Ghost, start getting ready…

I’ll probably nab 2 when they hit Walmart. Probably for any dual deck no matter what it is unless online has it for less than MSRP.

        1.) To build my collection.
2.) You never know if you’d enjoy the deck until you play it.

I think this deck fits both of those.

Haha, next year’s PreCon Championship is going to have FOUR Planeswalker decks slugging it out in the brackets!

Good call! That will certainly add a fun twist to it.

Looks like they finally got it: The Planeswalker-based Duel Decks seem to be much more popular (and thus: sell much better) than the random tribal ones …

Glad to have these two featured rather than Pirates vs Ninjas 😉

I’m not sure how I feel overall with the notion of scrapping the factions. I haven’t really loved the choices thus far, but what are the alternatives? All-PW all the time would get stale. For some strange reason, some obscure tribal deck like Cephalids or Thallids would be intriguing, but I’m probably in the minority there.

Elves vs. Goblins was a good one, though.

    I. CAN’T. WAIT!

I predict that this will be even better than Elspeth vs. Tezzeret, which was amazing.

Also, love both of the new arts by Deschamps. Venser got even SEXIER, which I did not think was possible

So the next faction vs faction decks are going to be related to the Fall 2012 block…

I’m predicting right now that they wanted to change it to the fall to let us get surprised by the return of the Eldrazi! (too soon? Maybe the return of Spirits from Kamigawa!)

    I kid, I kid…

Something vs Vampires I bet given how they want to link it to the block at release. Followed by Sorin vs someone which would come near the end of the block. Or maybe the dark lady vs someone.

Tribal warms the block up. PWs end it with a bang.

Considering they haven’t released the lists for Ajani vs Bolas yet, it’s likely going to be months before we get to see what’s in these, alas!

    Way off topic, but…

Ertai seeing how organized your collection is, have you grabbed one of those “Limited” sort of panorama planeswalker ultra pro boxes? The 500 sleeved card one. See it on coolstuffinc and am considering it over a fat pack box for “cards I may use” storage.
