The 2010-2011 Preconstructed Deck Championships

For the third time, we are descending into the battle arena with a season’s worth of contenders to battle for supremacy and determine the last deck standing! Having come to the end of the 2010-11 Season with the release of Magic 2012 (and Innistrad right around the corner), it’s time to crown a champion to stand beside 2008-09’s Dead Ahead and 2009-10’s Eldrazi Arisen. This time, though, there are some new faces vying for dominance, and the field is much more competitive.

To be sure, we have no shortage of decks lining up to do battle this season, coming in at the perfect number- 32! This time around, we’ll be looking at them in terms of tiers, to give you an idea of who the frontrunners look to be, and which decks are going to need a little extra luck- and a few upsets- on their path to glory.

2008-09 Precon Championships: The Finals

Welcome back to the final installment of the 2008-09 Precon Championships, and today we’ll be crowning a winner! The deck pool has been smaller for this season than it was for the 2009-10, so it’s made for a very quick and unpredictable format! That said, it would seem that the playing field was quite the level one, because every set represented has seen at least one of their decks advance to the Elite Eight. Jund and Esper had the most to be proud of, watching their decks climb over the field and reach for the top, while others like Bant had to suffer the indignity of coming up on the short end of every match they played.

2008-09 Precon Deck Championships: Lauer Division

Welcome back to Magic’s premiere preconstructed gaming event, the Precon Deck Championships! Three Divisions have already been decided, and their representative decks are waiting anxiously for the battle lines to be drawn and to get their shot at the title. Before then, we have one more Division to go: the Lauer. In our last installment, we saw the Turian Division through to its conclusion, so we know that the winner of today’s clashes will be taking on Dead Ahead for the honour of representing the Forsythe Conference against whichever deck wins between Jace’s Deck and Esper Artifice.

2008-09 Precon Championships: The Tinsman Division

Welcome back sports fans around the world and of all ages! We’re back with more exciting Precon Championships action today as we head on over to the other half of the Rosewater Conference, the Tinsman Division! You might recall that in the 2009-10 Precon Championships, the mighty Tinsman Division gave rise to the eventual Champion, Eldrazi Arisen. Will they be able to repeat that Magic here? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for certain: five decks will head into the arena today, and only one of them will be coming out. As we all know… Jace is waiting.

2008-09 Precon Championships: Nagle Division

We begin the 2008-09 Season with the Nagle Division. Because of the large number of byes in this season’s diminished field, we’re able to bring you all the exciting divisional coverage in a single post! Unlike the other three divisions, by random chance the Nagle Division gets an entire first round of byes. Here’s the Nagle Division’s quadrant of brackets:

2008-2009 Precon Championships: The Introduction

Last November, we ran the 2009-10 Preconstructed Deck Championships, which pitted that season’s crop of precons against one another through four Divisions, until the exciting series final left only one deck standing: Rise of the Eldrazi’s Eldrazi Arisen. A tremendous success, we’re already looking forward to the upcoming season this Autumn, but in the same vein we’re also wanting to go back in time to previous seasons and anoint winners there as well. Thus we are excited to announce the commencement of the 2008-09 Precon Championships!

For the 2008-09 season, we have a much-smaller pool to draw from as there was no Core Set or large-scale supplemental product release like the Duels of the Planeswalkers. As a result, most of the early brackets are byes. As before, seeding is completely random, and will use the same Conference/Division structure.

2009-10 Precon Championships: The Finals

Hello and welcome back to our continuing coverage of the 2009-10 Preconstructed Deck Championships! Today your patience will be rewarded, for after three exciting rounds of contests, we are closing in on final victory and the glory that comes from being the last deck standing!

Early action was furious and full of surprises. The Duel Decks- an early favourite- found themselves stymied at every turn. Of the four in contention, only Phyrexia was able to advance past the first round. The Coalition, Garruk, and Liliana all faced punishing upsets at the hands of decks who had never had so much as a sniff of a mythic rare between them.
